I have been doing some research in response to the I have been doing some research in response to the many queries that I have received regarding the use of CBD as a means of pain management/lube/ointment. Understandably so seeing that there has been a growing influx of CBD (THC free) products on the market and a long term dyspareunia prevalence of 7.5% (sexual pain for >/= 3months in last year) (Mitchell et al 2017). I have a series of 3 CBD posts that I will release in the coming days where I break down articles that have been used to promote the use of CBD. I want to be as comprehensive as possible in helping you make an informed decision but please be mindful that we (in science) do not have all the answers yet and you need to both; listen to your body and do your due diligence when making a purchase. In my opinion, transparency on the brands behalf is essential, see the second image for a lovely example of this. With regards to inflammatory conditions, a 2016 study found that CBD (thc free) gel reduced signs of pain, physical inflammation and and pro-inflammatory markers with 4 days topical application in rats (Hammell et al 2016). Many of our studies are performed on rats (I am so sorry if this makes you uncomfortable, many state that they are done ethically). This is exciting as its not a petri dish but rather a living thing, so the findings are that much more relevant but we need to follow this with controlled human trials. Exciting stuff. Reasons for Intercourse If you stop and think, wha Reasons for Intercourse If you stop and think, what are the reasons that you have ‘sex’ how many can you think of? - in this context we are talking about ‘PIV intercourse’ In this study, a whopping 237 reasons were identified! And to be honest, there are most likely more; if we were to expand our meaning of sex, look across different cultures, across different relationship structures, genders, ages, life stages… The most common reasons were:
1️⃣ Pure attraction to the other person in general
2️⃣ experiencing physical pleasure
3️⃣ expression of love
4️⃣ having sex because of feeling desired by the other
5️⃣ having sex to escalate the depth of the relationship
6️⃣ curiosity or seeking new experiences
7️⃣ marking a special occasion for celebration
8️⃣ mere opportunity
9️⃣ sex just happening due to seemingly uncontrollable circumstances. ‘Men’ were more likely to identify reasons relating to physical appearance and desirability, experience seeking, opportunity, social status.
‘Women’ were more likely to identify reasons relating to emotional, love & commitment motivations for sex. 
But of course there was overlap.
